bleed brakes needed?

i have an 80 trans am with 4 wheel discs. the brake pedal goes all the way down pretty easily and dosn't return fast. it is enough to hold the car and stock it but it dosn't hold nearly enough as it should. do you think its air in the lines or a bad master cylinder?

sounds like you've got a bad seal in your m.c.

I think JB has hit it on the head. Unless the system has been opened up doing maintenance, there should be no air in it. The fact that the pedal does not come right back up, also shows that the problem is likely from the MC.

Have you run out of brake fluid before? Does the wheel cylinders leak? Is there fluid in the resevoir now? Have they ever been bled? Are the pads in good shape? Check this out Here
