I don't know anything about olds motors, but since you asked how you could find out, you could call the company that makes the roller cam. They should let you know if there's any mods that are needed to make inorder for it to work. Or a reputable machine shop that does a lot of work on olds blocks.

im doing it to my sbc and it requires lifters with link bars. Its going to cost me almost a 1000 for chevy thats really sad. i dont even want to see the price for olds. I want to do it to my pontiac 455 along with twin turbos, the turbos i can deal with i dont know about the cam. good luck let us know how it goes. if you buy the kit it will be cheaper than the separate parts.

You dont have to modify the block if you go with some after market olds lifters. Summit sells them for about $450.00 for the set, and you will need the camshaft. the best place I have found to buy the cam from is advance, or anyplace else that sells the AE Clevite Engine Parts 2291798 roller cam, only cost about $260.00+tax
You will have to ask for a replacement cam for an 87 olds cutlass supreme or 442 VIN 9. The odd thing is that I cant seem to find the specs for the clevite roller cam. If you find out the specs, please post them EDIT: Lifter set here.http://store.summitracing.com/partd...=CCA%2D857%2D16 or here. http://store.summitracing.com/partd...RN%2D28532%2D16 The horsepower gained is WORTH the money, too bad I'm so damn cheap Last edited by 87442lover : 03-13-2004 at 09:29 PM. |

Im not to up on the Olds swapping, but I know some of those diesel converted v8 Olds setups were roller in the later ones, kind of a beefed up gas version,I would do a little investigating to see what they used for them, you may unveil some cheap parts too.

you can use the link bar lifters, but I'm not too thrilled about that little pin holding your 1000 dollar valve train together. When I put a roller in my 87 mopar block I drilled the lifter valley and mounted a spider and yolks on it to keep the stock style lifers in place. This setup is much cheaper too. The only thing you have to watch for is drilling into the cam bering! Takes a careful eye, but it can be done.
