The only intercooler that would work would be a blow through, sandwiched between the blower and inake manifold, but to actually cool the charge it would have to have some sort of dry ice type system. Coolant would be way to hot to actually help, so a rad type deal is out out the question.

Actually a coolant inter cooler is quite effective. Blowers make a lot of heat, way higher than your coolant temp. Here is an example of a coolant type for a S/C GM V6. Different motor I know, but temp drop seems pretty impressive...

There are only a couple of co's that make intercoolers for the 6-71. These are typically used on boats where there is a good supply of cool water and a couple of inches extra height don't matter.

For a street car these are a bit impractical in my mind. Unless you have a big billfold. BDS makes one that is very nice but again expensive.

Magneson makes a nice unit for the blower he uses but they are expensive. No doubt they work. There is one in our cruise group in a Chev truck with a v-6 that runs very nice. But at nearly $7k for the kit alone it is a bit spendy...I think.

I have 19k+ miles on my blown SBC and have yet to see the need for an intercooler. I drive pretty easy as I don't really feel the need to break parts and spoil my cruise time.

My question is just how much power do you think you can safely use on the street??? It is no trick to get over 500 hp out of a sbc. You can ony use the powerr for a short blast and you need eagle eyes to watch for the local trooper. A good example is today I drove 75 miles round trip to a breakfast cruise in a rainstorm and I'd guess I never got to use more than 75 hp at any time and still managed to get to 70 mph on the freeway.

A 6-71 is excellent eye candy and they work very well for the cost.....no point in making it more expensive and complicated than it is.

If you feel you really must cool the mixture at full throttle then a water/alcohol injector is much more practical. For $600 you can get all kinds of adjustability and it will work very nicely. It can allow you to run on 87 easily and safely if you know how to tune the motor properly.

I'd say build your ride first, drive it around a bit then if you really really want and IC and you have room for it , go ahead.
