I'll agree with SSMonty that the motor could be dragging and make the suggestion that you drill a 1/8 hole in the end of the motor cover, give it a shot of air to blow out the 35 + year old grease and squirt some TriFlow (teflon oil) in the hole to give it some good lubrication. Don't use WD40, just makes it sticky.
