Blower Motor Dead

Hi and thanks in advance.I have a 99 Ford Escort that I will be using the dash components on a rod project. Anyway the blower motor will not work.I have power to the motor and I did replace the resistor. 1 wire to the blower motor and it's hot all the time with the key on even with the switch off. Removed the motor and jumped it with a ground and it works? Motor is mounted to palastic case.
I am just blank what to do? Help!

re: Blower Motor Dead

If it is the same motor that is used in the T-Birds------Get a new one

The motors in both of my Birds semi quit before quitting altogether.
They would only work when they wanted to---and generally did not care
If we needed the AC or the heater.

The brushes get worn or dirty----I never bothered to take one apart,
So I just replaced em.

Bryan

Re-read your post-----could it be that there is some sort of muti-function switch or relay involved??
Mine have some sort of multi-function relay behind the right headlight (that is what the ford service guy told me)---but I also have "auto-climate control" in both cars.

re: Blower Motor Dead

Had the same problem in my daughters Escort. It turned out to be the resistor plate panel that controlls the three speeds was shot. It was located in the air duct coming from the motor, going to the heater/defroster ducts.

re: Blower Motor Dead

Thanks Bob Do mean the resistor you replaced, if so I did replace it. What baffles me is that I have a hot wire all the time to this motor with the key on..........is this normal?

re: Blower Motor Dead

The panel had three seperate resister wire setups (three speeds) on it. The hot was from a round switch on the dash. I had tried to use a single speed and a toggle switch on the motor, but the amperage was too much for a toggle switch. I believe the motor does run (slowly) all the time with key on. Maybe part of "Flow thru" factory vent system

re: Blower Motor Dead

Doc here,

That system may be GROUND Controlled...meaning the Power is constant to the motor, and speed control is achieved through the speed switch and resistors to ground..(which may be why the switch won't work if your trying to run it through power..)

In that configuration, The switch center wiper provides hard ground to the 3 speed terminals separately, and their respective resistor, to the motor to complete the circuit .. (motor already hot) ..Backward from how we think it should be.

re: Blower Motor Dead

Doc here,

Before that could be answered, you'd first have to determine if the switching was power or ground operated..

It sounds like to me , It may be ground switched..(GM does it all the time..)

If you have access to a 99 Escort Manual, It will show you in the schematics section.

re: Blower Motor Dead

I want to Thank all who helped. I did fix the problem! Some one installed an aftermarket CD player in the dash and cut the ground wire on the blower switch. Repaired the wire and she works great. Found a wirinng diagram and the switch makes the ground. Thanks again
