blowing smoke

I have a a new 350 and just replaced the carb. It ran great at first. 4,000 miles later, its blowing smoke (when its cold) and it hesates when I give it a little gas. Is it the air/fuel mixture? If so how do I fix it?

thanks.

No info on the kind of carb, but the mixture ratio doesn't just go out after time/mileage. If it's a Holley you might check for a blown power valve, you really need to supply more info.

It sounds like it is in the enrichment (choke) circuit. Does it clear up once warm? How is the idle quality upon start? Does it have a choke pull-off/unloader.

And again, we need to know what kind of carb you have. Year and model of vehicle will help also.

how did you drive it for those 4000 miles?

If the motor's running way rich, your eyes will sting and tear up while you at a stand still. If the engine is using oil, the oil level will go down noticably between gas fill ups and the blewish smoke will, well, smell like oil! Your PCV valve could be clogged causing oil (blow-by) to sneak past the rings. The oil pan could be overfilled causing the crankshaft to overly mist the oil in the crankcase and saturate the cylinders. I can't think of anything else right now but like everyone's saying, give us some more info to go on. Good luck

Black smoke- fuel White smoke- water Blue smoke-oil. Some exceptions, but a good rule of thum.

Hey ted, i had a gas leak that happened to fall on my Headers and it boiled off as a white vapor that came pouring into the car, my nose and throat hurt for 2 weeks after that one....

Ted655 09-22-2002 05:48 PM

That was...boiled gas, it should have had a green tint to it. :D

I blow a little white smoke when i rev up the engine. Its a 350. But only when i give it gas why is that. its only noticable if you are behind strairng at the tailpipes.
What could it be

How many miles on the motor???Do it use oil??Do it use coolant??Do it make bubbles in radiator??Do it only do it when you first start it??Do it make you annoyed when I keep saying do it??Do it??
