Just build a 383 out of the L31 block. Vortec heads, roller cam, and EFI. Would make better power than a stock 5.3 and probably (depending how you build it) a 6.0. Plus it would be all new inside instead of a possible junkyard engine. Plus it is a direct bolt in. No harness change or clearance issues. IMO if you got engine building experience you could build one for 2500 or less depending on how you build it! You won't find a decent 5.3 or 6.0 with computer and all applicable harnesses and stuff for that!!

I built one for my 1996 K2500 and am very happy with it!! I would put it up against any 5.3 liter or 6.0 liter any day towing!!

Just something to think about!!
