i sanded a ding on the door to bare metal, applied body filler, sanded smooth, primed, then painted. you can see an outline of where the repair was made(the body filler), but im sure it was smooth before i painted.
do i need a compatible primer with that paint?
or does it need a sealer in the repaired area?
or did i just use cheap primer?
everthing else came out very good except for the area of the body filler, its like an outline showing through the paint

About the only reasons this can happen is you are seeing an outline of the filler because it was over sanded leaving it lower than the metal. Or the primer over it wasn't applied properly or blocked properly. It could have been applied too wet so it shrunk up even after blocking it properly.

But I would put money on it that the filler was sanded too much leaving it lower than the metal. It was primed and blocked but the primer couldn't fill as much as needed being the filler was sanded so low.

These are classic mistakes and likely your problem.

Brian

Pictures would be interesting ..
See if this read takes from the mystery..

The fix may not require stripping back through to the filler though will depend on more info/pics as above posts

You said you sanded the filler, but didn't mention sanding the primer or what type of primer was applied.
