Body over shifter

I am building a 34 ford and am new to this. I have my motor and tranny on my chassis. I have just trial fit my Lokar shifter and am wondering , how do I fit the body over the shifter lever. If I take it off (which I can do) to try and put it back on with the body in place would be to say the least very tough. What am I missing?

............or with some very careful measuring you can cut a slot in the floor and fit the body over it. Use the body bolt holes in the chassis and the body to locate ......measure twice, thrice or more.....and cut once.

ReFab Tranny Tunnel

Thanks guys. I just recieved my 34 BeBop body. I cant belive how well it fits on my TCI chassis, they did a great job. I did not tell them I was using a Lokar shifter on top of my 700R4 tranny so...... I have to redo the tunnel. I see some good articals here on fabricating a fiberglass tunnel. Any words of wisdom? I guess what I need to do first is cut the old tunnel out untill the tranny fits well then build a mould over the 700R4 and fiberglass. I like the suggestion of making it removable, is that a good idea?

Sometimes it's easier to put the shifter on then to take a chance with the body... It may seem easier to just life the body over it.. But sometimes it isn't... Now if you have a few guy's to help..It can been done..

Cut a removeable plate in the tunnel.. easier and if you ever decide to remove or change you dont have to pull the body... My $.02

I have a removable floorboard in my steel 'A'. While you don't need as an extensive one, it sure makes life easier when you are working in that area (that console framework shown wasn't used). Lots of pretty careful measuring

If you have to remove portions of the fiberglass tunnel I'd not worry about repalcing it with glass. I'd make a nice cover out of 16 ga. steel and then glass some washer head nuts to the bottom side of the floor pan and bolt the new tunnel into them. This way you'll have a strong floor and removeable for trans service.

Thanks all. You have been a great help. If I could figure how to get some pics uploaded I would show you where I am.
