Bolt Removal HELP!!!

I am trying to restore a 41 chevy truck, so I start looking at the bolts, srews and notice that all of the interior around the window, door panels, door hinges everything has this screw that is kind of like a square but with half moons on each end. I cannot find anything to fit for removal. Checked at local auto stores and chevy dealership and I get looked at like I am retarted. Does any one know where to get something to remove these screws. So far I have just been using a drill bit and drilling them out but it is a lot of work. Thanks in advance...

Badriand,

This is an "OLD" chevy style screw head. It was called the "Chevy hour-glass" I do not think you can buy it any more, but you might see one at a swap meet.
I find grinding an old scredriver to the shape you need works just fine. Grind it slow so you do not take the temper out of the blade.
On the bigger screw heads with this style head like on the 57 truck beds I weld a nut to the screw and then use a wrench. I then replace them with stove bolts.

Good Luck

Cool - I'm rebuilding a '41 also! The screws are called "Clutch Head" screws. Several sizes are used throughout the truck. You can buy 1/4" drive bits at:

http://www.lara.com/cgi-bin/store/co...specialty_bits

Get all the sizes - they're cheap!

Here's a pic of my truck.

i remember my buddy telling me about clutch-head screws on his truck and i think he said to use a torx bit and grind off two of the points to fit the head.

can't remember for sure, though.

The clutch head screws are very common on 55, 56, & 57 Chevy cars - suplliers for these cars like Danchuk carry the bits and screwdrivers in a few different sizes
