Book Editor Needs Photos

Hello,

I'm an editor at Walter Foster Publishing in California. We've been publishing "How to Draw" books for more than 85 years. We are planning to publish a book on “How to Draw Cool Cars” (i.e., hot rods), and our author needs some photo references to draw from.

We need a good variety of makes and models with interesting wheels, unique paint jobs, etc. The more customized, the better. (We also need some “rat rods.”)

If you are interested in submitting a photo of your car for consideration, please follow these guidelines:

1. Please send no more than 2 jpegs of the same car in any one submission. Images can be action shots (e.g., wheelies, burnouts) or static. Any angle is acceptable: three-quarter front view, three-quarter back view, side view, back view, birds-eye view, etc. All images must be in color. Each image should be at least 3” x 5” (so we can see the details) and no more than 1mb. (If your car is chosen for the book, we will need a larger, higher-resolution jpeg.)

2. Please tell us the make, model, and year of the car. (And it wouldn’t hurt to point out the features that make your car unique or special.)

3. Please do not submit photos of your car unless you also are willing to sign a model release if the car is chosen for the book. You must be the owner of both the car and the photograph (meaning that you must have taken the photo yourself). If somebody else took the photo, that person also will need to sign a release.

4. Note that the drawing of your car will be “cartoonified,” so our author will use his judgment in exaggerating certain aspects of the car and changing it as he decides. He may change the color. The final drawing may not closely resemble your car. The author also may add a cartoon character driver to the car.

5. Please be sure to provide your contact information so we can let you know whether your car has been chosen and send you a model release form.

6. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to pay you for use of your image. But if your car is chosen for the book, we will send you 5 free copies of the book.

7. The deadline for submissions is March 12, 2007.

8. Please e-mail your submissions to *******

Thanks in advance to everybody who submits a photo! We truly appreciate your help.

Sincerely,
The editors at Walter Foster Publishing
Laguna Hills, California

I'm sorry -- our rules forbid postings of a commercial nature by those who are affiliated with the commercial interest.

We've had similar requests before, and we usually like to support book publishers. Your best bet is to look through the resources on our hot rod pictures page. There are well over 30,000 photos from which to select.

When you find a photo that you'd like to use, either privately contact the owner of the photo, or send me a private message (or email me at jon@hotrodders.com) with a list of photos you'd like to use, and I'll forward the requests along to the members who uploaded the photos.
