borg warner 4 sp

Has anyone ever heard of taking the shaft & tail housing out of a 3 sp overdrive borg warner trans and putting it in a borg warner 4 sp to end up with a 4 speed with overdrive?

That wont work in a T10. It WILL work in a Saginaw.
If you're looking for a cruiser, nothing wrong going that route. Just make sure you wire it right, and you might want to stick a spare solenoid on the shelf if you see one.
If you need Saginaw hard parts, Mike Sangermano's Magnus Racing Products in CT can help you out. If you need something like an overhaul kit and can't find it local, PM me and I'll help you find someone; same goes for your T10.

If it works on the siginaw is there any difference between the v8 4 speed and the vega monza trans. I'am looking to put it behind a 64 studebaker gt hawk with a 289 v8. The car will be just a fun cusier but that doesn't mean I wont get on it once in a while. The cars came from the factory with a borg warner 4 sp. Early model were the same as a chev and later the same as a ford.

T 10 Od

The T 10's were an aftermarket kit that require quite a bit of rework. I have a kit to put a W11 OD on MY C6 ford, a modified rear housing and shaft.

I'll check on the differences between the V8 Sag and the Monza; but I believe theres several differences. Also note that Studebaker used a long input gear compared to GM. You may have some trouble getting enough pilot engagement using a GM input.

According to my boss George, all saginaws are essentially the same; other than the reverse idler boss moved some, and there was a damper plate used on some gearsets and not others; this damper can cause some interference with the case. If you get a gearset with the damper are are worried if it will fit or not, lovingly grind the heads off the rivets and gently throw the plate and springs in the trash.
