Borg Warner Trans

I'm wandering if anyone can give me some ideas of how to get my borg warner 4 speed from my 78 camaro looking like new again? Just wandering the easiest and best way to clean up the housing and get it to look factory. Thanks really appreciate any input from someone that has done this at some point.

Disassemble, or very tightly cap all openings like input shaft, output shaft and vent - and beadblast it. You could also try the acid wash truckers use for cleaning bare aluminum wheels, but I don't think it will give the "as new" look like beadblasting will. Depends on if you just want it clean and stain free, or of you want the same look it had when brand new for a #'s matching restoration.

The aluminum brightner Eric is talking about will do the job if you use it full strength but, you will have to remove all dirt and road "tar" off the case.
Is is also caustic so you don't want to get any on your skin or eyes. You can wash it off with water and dilute it down from full strength also. It costs about 30 bucks a gallon from a semi truck parts store such as kenworth truck supply and sales centers. I used it on my performer intake I bought used and it made it look new again. If you don't feel comfortable using acid or don't have an area to do the job, bead blasting might be the way to go.
