I would use the splined or double D shaft and joints and then you won't have to do either. Just install the joints and lock with the set screw.

I just did mine with borgesons splined and double D shaft. Expensive , but it is going on the street . And I can take it apart if need be. Once you are sure everything works OK mark the set screw and drill a dimple in the shaft for it to sit and will never move.
