What's your take on Borgeson joint ,pinning, welding ?

Its a street rod ,not a dragster, so its going to be driven. I want it safe.

I put a shaft together with pins. There is no room for cross pinning without weakening the shaft . IMO one pin is not enough.

I used shaft not tube. I think they said pinning weakens shaft 38% what would cross pin do to weaken the shaft?

Borgeson doesnt recommend welding ,either do I,besause of grease,seals etc.

I am considering the pin,then tack with tig weld on opposite side of pin.
Tig is not that hot,being a tack weld imo.

Any and all suggestions opinions welcomed.

I would use the splined or double D shaft and joints and then you won't have to do either. Just install the joints and lock with the set screw.

I just did mine with borgesons splined and double D shaft. Expensive , but it is going on the street . And I can take it apart if need be. Once you are sure everything works OK mark the set screw and drill a dimple in the shaft for it to sit and will never move.

I filed the ends of you 3/4th round steering shaft into a DD shape to fit in the borgeson u-joind. I just bought a u joint from them what a B***, cost me 100 to it home. And thats just for a plain steel shaft. Its going to rust later.

I have heard that the astro van u joints work to but who knows how safe Junkyard parts are.

Ya don't pin em or weld them just used DD and index screw to secure them
