Brake booster vacuum leak

Hello all . I have run a search on here for related threads and didn't come up with anything on this particular seal. I have a complete power brake system off of a 71 Monte Carlo swapped on to my 69 Chevelle . Recently a vacuum leak has developed in the booster to master cylinder seal . That is the seal that goes on the booster rod in between the MC and Booster. Where can I locate one of these seals . I put a band aid on it for the time being and put black RTV on the MC mounting flange . It works fine for now with no more leaks, but I want a new seal if I can get one. Anyone bought this in the past? Thanks.

If memory serves me right I don't think you can buy individual parts for a vacuum booster unless you can find a booster rebuild shop that are willing to sell you the parts you need. That beening said ,if you have a leak where you say it is leaking you could have a diaphragm that has a hole in it as I seem to remember that seal is part of the diaphragm and has to be rebuilt to fix it ,or replace the booster it self.Check with your local parts stores for prices vs a rebuilder that you can deal with directly.I work on a fleet of medium duty trucks and we have ours rebuilt tru a local rebuilder ,close to 200 buck diff it price. Hope this helps, good luck.

My diaphram isn't holie!! LOL .

No, seriously. I've rebuilt several boosters before with great success. Only problem now is that my connection for the diaphram and seals no longer exists . There is a seal in between the MC and the booster that slips over the brake rod that has a split seal on it that is leaking on my car. I have had the booster apart and everything checks out inside it, A OK. Just the split seal around the booster rod is showing fatigue .

I put nearly 500 miles on it this weekend at " Cruising the Coast " in Biloxi/Gulfport MS. with no problems whatsoever after I sealed the MC to the booster. I'll try to find a schematic /breakdown of this particular set-up that shows what is needed. Thanks for the feedback.

Kevin

I don't work like that. If it ain't broke , don't fix it. My booster is fine . Why replace the booster because of a $3.00 split seal gone bad ? that's like replacing a transmission with a dipstick tube leak .

Has anyone located a source for a front booster seal for 70's GM power brake booster?
