brake lights not working
I have a 1964 chev. If I take the switch out of the loop, the brakes lights work (i.e. I disconnect the switch's output wire and apply 12v to the wire the brake lights immediately come on).
If I isolate the switch, it too works (i.e. I disconnect both switch wires and apply 12v to the input terminal of the switch and I step on the brake and I see 12v on the output terminal of the switch). If I then reattach the switch wires and step on the brake, I see 12v going into the switch and nothing on the output side. I'm guessing here - the switch will work under a no load situation but cannot handle the required load of the brake lights and needs to be replaced? |
Remove the switch from the bracket, leave the wires attached, and see if it works....... if it does then you have to adjust the travel of the brake rod/sheft etc..... to the switch it's self

You are correct. The switch is bad. Loose internal connection, corrosion or dirt. Just replace it.
