Brake pedal height??

How would I go about lowering the pedal?? Would heating the arm red hot, and stepping on the brake lower it somewhat below the floor?? Also would a Mapp gas torch heat it up enough?? Thanks.. Al

Most old cars & trucks with that style pedal have an adjustment on the push rod. The long slot in your floor is not needed, you need only a small hole. That pedal is adusted too high.

That flat part of the lower pedal needs to stay below the floor, and some cars had a rubber bumper to hit the underside of the floor & to seal the hole when the pedal is up.

I forgot to tell you that the pedal assembly came from Speedway Motors.

Brake pedal height

Even with the Speedway pedal, you should be able to adjust the pedal to the correct position. You might have to shorten the push rod. Just be careful not to take too much off so as to cause an over center situation. If you need to shorten the push rod, I'd make up a dummy rod to modify. That way if something goes wrong, you still have the original to work with. I have used 2 3/8 bolts with the heads cut off threaded into a long or running nut to make up an adjustable link.

Hope this helps, Youngster
