whatever you are using for a turn signal switch will have a brake input that wire you have is typically only for a 3rd brakelight or if it is straight from your pressure switch it goes to the signal switch

If you are shore the turn signal conductors don't energize when the brakes are applied , I would purchase a harness converter at your trailer supply. The converter is used to convert from four wire vehicle to a three wire trailers .

if your using any after market wire system, i agree with lefty.
the turn indicators are also your brake lites.
the brake lead will go to your 3rd brake lite.

most turn lite switches have 2 hot feeds; keyed on and thru the brake switch.
the bright element on the 1157 is turn/stop the smaller/dimmer filament is running

The turn signal wire is also the brake light wire, the turn signal switch creates the routing for the trun signal and brake light functions. The 4th wire maybe for back up lights.

A trailer can use three wire because the tung is the ground or return if you prefer, it is not a conversion. One reason trailer lights will start out not working and then a few turns later they will work.
