breakin/start-up oil

What is the best Engine/Break-In/Start-Up oil? What is the best Additive? Is one brand line clearly better, or all they all pretty much the same? Does cost make any difference? Iv'e got 6qts of Pennzoil 10w-40 in there now. Shud I drain this, add the additive(s) then pour the oil back in?...............fb396

What are you running? Flat tappet cam is the issue. ZDDP additive added to oil for cam break in.

For flat tappet cams, I always use Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil plus ZDDP additive. Roller cams are not an issue, use any good quality oil.

You will need an oil such as VR1 and then add more ZDDP or buy the Brad Penn brand.

I'm no expert, but I was told by a former instructor and race car builder , , use the Zinc additive ( for the cam ), then any GOOD oil after that, I asked about the mile milage Valvoline 10 /40 that I had on hand, he said ''fine ''. And I think it's also synthetic
