breaking in new engine procedure???

I will be dropping in a new gmpp 290 hp engine tomorrow. How would you guys go about breaking it in? I have read widely differing opinions on this, from baby it for 500 miles to warm it up then run it like I stole it. I want to run it varying the RPM from 1500 to 200 to break in the cam but then I'm not sure. I have Valvoline VR1 in it with a Napa gold filter FWIW. I probably am being paranoid .... I just don't want to screw anything up. TIA

Cam break in, start at 1800 rpm, 3 minutes later move it up to 2200 rpm, 3 minutes later back down to 1800 and repeat. After 25 minutes your set. Change the oil and filter immediatly after cam break in. Next drive it normally on the street, when coming to a stop down shift so the engine slows it down, this aides in ring break in. After it`s gotten 500 miles of street time change the oil and filter once more and your set.
