Bring Back the RWD V8 Monte Carlo!!

I picked this up off of a web page, it's got a petittion to GM to bring back the RWD Monte Carlo w/ a V8..... I dunno how likely GM is to listen, but I signed it.. Some of you might want to as well?

http://www.projectmonte.com/petition/
This is what the pettion says:

We, Chevrolet Monte Carlo owners and enthusiasts of all locations and races, hereby request that the Chevrolet Motor Division and General Motors design, create, manufacture and sell a new generation of Monte Carlos that adhere to characteristics of the original 4 Monte Carlo generations, including rear-wheel drive, V8 engine, side bodylines, (cursive) lettering and the knight crest emblem. While the resurrection of the Monte Carlo nameplate in 1995 after a seven-year absence helped put the car back in the spotlight, the 1995-99 models and, to some extent, the 2000-present edition fall short of living up to the Monte Carlo nameplate.

With the re-design of the Lumina beginning with the 1995 model year, the coupe version was re-named "Monte Carlo", but continued with mostly Celebrity/Lumina characteristics. We are aware that the Lumina replaced the Celebrity in 1990, not the Monte Carlo, despite the Lumina replacing the Monte Carlo in the NASCAR circuit. This is according to the book _Chevrolet: The Complete History_ (copyright 1996 by Publications International LTD) which states, in part, on page 348: "With the new Lumina coupe and sedan effectively replacing their Celebrity counterparts...". The Lumina shared types (Eurosport), dashboards (relatively flat), tail lights (square, across the back), FWD, and block lettering with the Celebrity...nothing with the Monte Carlo, which had been Chevrolet's #1 seller before it's demise after the 1988 model year.

We credit Chevrolet/GM with attempting to bring back the "Monte Carlo" feel with the 2000-present edition, which included the return of the knight emblem and body sidelines that were characteristic of the original 4 Monte Carlo generations. However, we have been disappointed by the lack of V8 power and RWD, which were also characteristics of the original 4 generations. While we acknowledge the changing demands of the American Auto Buyer, the inclusion of V8 engine (for which GM is famous) and RWD on the next generation Monte Carlo would continue Chevrolet's tradition of producing distinctive, high-quality examples of American craftsmanship.

2167 people have signed this petition. Of those, 1878 actually own/owned 3394 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Model Years!!

And while we bring back the rear wheel drive Monte Carlo, bring back the rear drive Impala, Malibu and don't forget the Camaro.

As far as NASCAR goes, make a rule that they cannot run a car that a manufacturer does not sell at least 1,000 units of that version for street use. That means rear drive 2 door units with the same engine/transmission that are on the track. A detuned version of the racing engine would be acceptable but it must be the same displacement. Also an automatic transmission option would count.

I've never understood NASCAR.

NATIONAL ASSOCATION for STOCK CAR AUTO RACING

What, just WHAT is stock about these luminas and monte carlos that go 200+ MPH?

lol

Not to mention all the insides are pretty much gutted out beside a different engine, gear ratios, transmissions, etc etc etc

should become the NAMCAR

National Assocation for Molested Car Auto Racing IMHO

There was a time when NASCAR was first formed when the cars that were racing were actually just that-stock cars. They were not that far removed from cars any average person could buy and drive on the street. In fact, I believe there is still a clause in the rental car contracts to deal with the use of the vehicle in competition. This stems from the days when the occasional rental car was used for a stock car race, try putting a rental an the track today. These NASCAR vehicles are now so far removed from a street car, the use of stock in the name is a joke.

I could be wrong, but I do not believe we will ever see a big block street car manufactured again.

I wonder if I offered GM $500,000 would they build me a brand new 1969 Pontiac Judge

Would be amazing if they brought back the GNX! Maybe a GN with a FWD Turbo-V6 would be OK

Check the list, I'm listed on there. Almost a year ago. It's too bad GM (and all other manufacturers IMO) are too busy listening to the cha-ching and not the people that actually buy the cars. Wake up, GM.

Jeez.I would build my own beast for half a mill.Plus have enough left over to get gas and buy a pair of shoes for the little lady so she would not be * at me for spending that much money on a street beast.

considering how 4 out of 5 of those cars look, I don't think I would encourage GM to bring it back.
