Broken Headliner

Okay I have this headliner thats not really broken all over but I guess this is what happend when you send someone else on an Headliner trip to the Junkyard for you.

There were a few broken areas, Mainly where the sun visors screw in, So I took some permatext glue sprayed the broken areas and then put some duck tape on the back and front side to hold it together till it dried.

Now onto to the bigger problem, the cut down the middle. I tryed the same thing and its not working to well. Its not strong enough for me.

So does anyone have any Ideas on what I can do? This headliner is the foam/Styrofoam type of headliner board not cardboard or plastic. I would really rather not go there myself and sit there and undo all these trim pieces all day just to get it out.

I think you're going to have to pull that thing out and make a repair from the backside to make it hold. That would be a good time to do it right and maybe recover it too. You'll be glad you did!

What kind of repair?... like how?

I was thinking of taking a strip of polyester I have and glue it down the strip where is been cut in half and just fiberglassing it in that one area. Cause I know fiberglassing the whole this will require to remove an window and thats not an option. By the way this is an some what daily driver 89 Chevy caprice.

That's what I was thinking would work better is using fiberglass too. That may be the only way if you can't get it out of the car, but it would be a stronger repair if it could be made from the back side. Good luck.

You can buy a complete brand new headliner for your car for $190.00 here: http://www.gmpartsdepartment.com/par...14533&chapter=

You will save yourself a lot of grief and possibly having to do the job over multiple times.

I Couldnt find it on there.

The headliner is already out and cleaned up pretty much all the way. I could fix it how ever I wanted I guess but the issue would be to getting it back in without breaking it(mainly from the cut down the middle)

Be careful if you try and repair it with fiberglass. The resin may eat the headliner foamboard stuff...
