Broken Oil Dipstick

I was installing my headers and I cracked my oil dipstick somehow today when I was driving I smelt oil burning and looked under my hood it's leaking oil out the dipstick when I looked at it I ended up breaking it off totally. Can you tell me how to replace it. It broke right the base close to the block. Do u unscrew it ? Plz let me know

You should just be able to pull it out. Can you grab whats left with a pair of needle nosed pliers?

is it a factory piece or one of those cheap chrome Mr. Gasket brand dip sticks?

If it's factory be careful removing it, if its a cheap one then be really careful. If you break it off clean with the block your going to cause yourself some trouble.

I had the same situation years ago and got it out with an old easy out. The one I broke off was clean to the block, with no way to grab it. Good Luck!

a long screw might work.it doesn't have to grab much unless its been in there so long that its welded its self with rust.you might want to shoot some wd-40 on it a day in adv.

Did you break the tube off? If so, get a bolt that will screw into the part of the tube that's in the block. Screw it in (it will jam, but that's what you want) and then take an open-end wrench that will barely slip over the shaft & tap the bolt head upward. Tap the wrench with a hammer or something if you need to. The broken tube should come out with the bolt.

we put a 350 in a 49 p/u at my work and it had the same problem you do. one of the techs had a little taper that fit into the hole and it had thread on it so it could grab and it was attacted to a small slide hammar, came right out.
