i have an 84 chevy diesel pickup with a 700-R4 transmission. recently i got stuck and since than the transmission has not been able to shift any higher than 2nd gear. Park, reverse, neutral, first, and second gears all work fine, but drive and overdrive will not engage. please email me back with a list of possible problems i may be experiencing.

It sounds like a 3-4 clutch problem, although You do not mention that the engine revs up after it is in second gear for a while.
As the tranny trys to make the shift to 3rd, oil is fed to the 2nd gear servo to push it off as 3rd is applied. If 3rd gear clutch pack is toast, usually the engine will rev like it has hit neutral. It could be a stuck shift valve. Tony
