In 1962 my brother was all growd up and ready to head off to college. He had one big problem in front of him, he could not afford a car and had no other way of getting a ride to the college 30 miles away in Ottawa.
My father was stationed for 6 months in the Arctic, so an interesting option presented itself. In the short time he had he began hauling in 3 rusted Oldsmobiles from a nearby junkyard and a 1930's something full of bullit holes and so siezed up none of the wheels would turn. He hauled all of these by way of the local garbage collection truck, borrowed from his employer.
None of this would have happened had my father been at hand, but like I say this option presented itself. The frame and running gear was taken from one, the engine another, the seating section was used from the 30 something and whatever taken from all.
From all of this was born a wierd looking thing called a hot rod, basically his transportation to and from college and of course a lot more. Origionally it was powered by a flathead six, but that soon made way for an Olds V8. The backend was very light and didn't take much to light up the rear tires.
I have some memories of riding in this thing, people waving wherever he took it, I'm not sure where it ever ended up. I am posting a few surviving real bad (and I mean bad) pictures of it , and I'm going to try getting the nagatives to see if I can improve them.
