I'm doing a street rod using a 1930 Model A coupe. Considering using bucket seats, in place of the stock coupe seat. Can anyone help me as to what seats will fit the best, with the least amount of cutting, burning and grinding (ie. vehicle model/year)

Don't know how much width you have to play with but the 34 Chevy I just sold I used Bucket Seats out of a 78 Camaro. Pretty narrow and fit without having to modify anything.

Dodge Neon or any car about that size will fit fine, you are probably limited to a seat width of no more that 20" per seat.

Any number of small import cars have seats that will fit size wise. We have seats from as Acura (forget what year) in my dads 1934 Plymouth Coupe, and I've got seats out of a mid '90s BMW in my 1936 Chevy pick-up (at least for now, thinking about going back to a bench seat). Both of these seats are narrow enough that at least in the vehicles we have them in there is no problem with clearance between the two seats or between the seats and the doors. Both of these seats were extremely easy to mount in our vehicles.

Toyota celica seats from the mid '80s on up are very comfortable, narrow, and pretty easy to find. Find seats from a GTS model (and some GT's) and you'll get the premium seats with the air adjustable lumbar supports.

If you get lucky and find a Mini in a junkyard, check those seats out. They are small but surprisingly comfortable. A friend of mine has a Mini and one day He was showing it to me when he first bought it and I pulled out a tape measure and started measuring the seats. Ne must not have liked the evil grin on my face because now he keeps it locked in his garage I've not had a the chance to put Mini seats in anything yeat, but unless my measurements were way off those seats are narrow and low enough to fit in just about anything.

I've seen Pontiac Fiero seats used, these may be getting hard to find due to years car is out of production. These fit nice, narrow and low is the ticket. May want to try Saturn seats. Ive seen front and rears used in a 30 sedan.

I bought some Jeep seats from Summit, brand new and at $117 each I thought they were reasonable. Very clean, black or tan vinyl. See http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...t=seat%2C+Jeep

They are item BST-39335-01 if you have a Summit catalog. I bought them to use in a '28 roadster pickup, 4" extended cab.

35prog is right about the Fiero seats, they used to be the hot item because they were small, comfortable, and the speakers in the headrests were a nice bonus. An alternative that would probably be a lot easier to find would be seats from a mid to late 90's Grand Am. I haven't tried them myself but a friend of mine has them in his 28 Model A. I had forgotten about them until i saw the Fiero seats mentioned.

I swapped out a set of Fiero seats for a set of Sunfire seats. They might actually be a bit more comfy that the Fiero seats. No speakers in the headrest but the headrest is removable from the Sunfire seats. Some even have the adjustable lumbar in them.

Edit: FYI, Speakers in Fiero seats was '84-'85 only, even though the basic seat never changed from '84-'88. You can retrofit speakers into the later seats without much trouble, and probably put a better quality speaker in there while you're at it. If you replace the speaker, remember it's right next to your head so you might want to stay away from anything with a tweeter in it.

I have a set of Fiero seats in my '31 with the speakers in the headrests. While they may be hard to find, there are several strictly Fiero sources that might be able to help you. They just fit in my '31 and look really good. Almost all of the ones you will find have the driver's side bolster damaged.

You can get new,custom sewn, leather covers from MrMike.com. They are about $4-500 per set depending on pattern and come with precut foam, adhesive,hog rings and pliers and full dvd/video instructions. Took me about 3.5 hours to replace them including the speakers. Mr Mike also sends instructions for replacing the speakers (try Crutchfield.com) or adding them into the latter seats.

You can get replacement side hinge covers from the FieroStore at about $20 each. They also carry some less expensive seat covers of a lesser quality.

Andover Restraints carries a nice line of seat belts with the '60's style aircraft buckles-plain polished stainless.
