bucking, stalling, but only on the highway

Hey guys,

This just started over the last few weeks. Street driving is fine, good idle, good acceleration etc. Get on the highway and about five mins in she starts bucking, loosing power, small pops. Pull over, starts right back up, runs fine for a bit then does it again. Generic Holley carb on a 78 Jeep Wagoneer 360 stock w/auto trans. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I once had an old GMC Suburban that would do similar things and only when the outside temps were above 80 degrees.

After much greif, nashing of teeth and dis-assembly of most every component.. Three different new fuel pumps. It turned out to be the nylon "sock" on the fuel pick up, in the gas tank.

Someone, at a previous time, had poured something very strong into the fuel tank and the sock melted/shriveled up like an insect cacoon.. Amazing any fuel at all came thru it.. Look for a restriction in your fuel line..

Ditto. You're losing fuel flow to the carb.
