Budget Cut SBC Build Lots of parts what now?

Just when I have my build done on paper and my summit shopping cart finished my rent got jacked way due to the need for housing near the bakan oil fields. So my full roller 383 is a thing of the past.

Here is what I have:
383 short block scat crank 5.7 rods hyper pistons, ported 441 heads w/ hyd. flat springs good to .500 lift, weiand dual plane, trick flow 23 195cc w/ SR springs good for .650 lift, howards SR cam 247/249 .585/.585, stock 400 intake to oil pan bored 30 over never been reassembled.

The car is a 1980 camaro backed by a turbo 350, 3.90 gears, and 26in MT drag radials. Street car that will see the 1/8th mile.

What would you build Im thinking of building the 406, Im thinking I might change the springs in the trick flow's for solid ft and go that route with cheap 30 over pistons and the stock 400 rod and crank and selling the 383 with the 441's on top of it

thanks, again

Could you tell me about the work situation where you're at? Is it really that out of control(in a good way)?

What is your budget and does the camaro have an engine in it now?

neighboor has a cdl and moved with a oil company based in texas. Made more in a summer than i make in a year.

He follows these oil recovery operations around. Only in a area for a couple years at a time. Hauls contaminated dirt. Good job to see the country if you have no ties.

It is your tree you are sitting in it. Build what you can and enjoy.

If you have a 400 there is no reason not to build it.

I'm in Dickinson North Dakota, and it is pretty crazy around here in good and bad ways. Many stores are closing because they can't compete with the wages the rigs offer...even mcdonalds closed in williston. Anyone can get a $20 an hour job but you have to find a place to live. Also you are working and living with and around the scum of the earth. I'm a big guy at 6'3 and 230 and I carry a concealed weapon. It really is the modern gold rush.

But on to my engine, would you rather use the stock 400 crank and rods and sell the 383 short block, or use bearing spacers and use the scat crank and 5.7 rods from the 383. Then of course what is the chances of putting 400 pistons on the end of the rods and still being with 50 grams of the previous balance?

engine choice

How fast do you want to go?If its just for fun then start with the 406.I built a very very low budget 406 for a friend.Torker intake, bought used,750 carter carb, bought used, mild hydraulic flat tappit cam, small tube headers,3.36 gears, turbo 350.In a 1978 monte carlo the car ran a best of 13.30s at 99 to 100 mph. decent mileage for a daily driver.also it had stock 400 heads with a 3 angle valve job
Ive never tried 1/8 mile. I doubt you will hurt a mild 400 racing 1/8 mile.
the 383 has better parts if you decide to go wild.

Build what you can with what you've got...its what hot rodding is all about. Whatever you build will be a kick in the butt for that old camaro. One thing to think about; if you go too crazy, and money is already tight, you've gotta feed your beast too...gas won't be getting cheaper.

Sorry to hear about your situation; you could always sell off some parts, go low compression and a blower or junkyard turbo setup

Remember: center mass & double tap (Sig P226 in .40 and P220 in .45 here)
