Budget Cuts

Well, it finally has happened. Our governor made the usual campaign promises to reduce the deficit and cut the budget. To do so he said he was going to reduce the number of state employees by 10,000.

Last week, on Friday, I was informed that my position will be eliminated and that after 27 years with the State Patrol, my career is over.

Bummer, I'll be 57 in March and it's a little tough looking for a new job in our area with benefits, etc. and a salary that I need to pay our bills, mortgage.....

Just thought I'd share that little tidbit...no job is safe anymore.

That's rough. Are they just cutting you out or do you get some kind of severance?

Sorry to hear that, especially if they are cutting POLICE!, But thanks to Califonias last several governors we have had this problem for a while!!

It seems the only way to get a decent paying American job these days is to go to India.

BigBird-
They do that here in NY all the time (unfortunately). They announce huge layoffs to "get the Govenor off the hook for his campaign promises" and then hire everyone back when he actually does it. The people go into a rampage when E-services are cut, and it gets added back in extremely fast. They actually end up hiring more in the long run. Just more politics... at the expense of the common WORKING guy.

They should start cutting Medicaid and social programs. Thats where the budget NEEDS trimming.

I know you were posting in jest, but for those that didn't know....

The people of India are not paid well. If they were, the jobs wouldn't be going there.
There is a heiarchy (maybe Fuedal state) in India. The "Upper Class" (that are still alive and) displaced by the Tsunami, make the "lower class" move out of their homes, and they take their homes over. Believe it or not.

I have seen a couple of news items on it, and while I dont believe everything i "see" even though indians are making a lower wage than we are, they are still living a good life., and much better than if they had to rely on there own country for jobs. I am certainly no expert in that area.
There is no dooubt that the next time you call your bank, or some other big companies customer service, you will be talking to someone in india.

That sux Bird. There is nothing like giving a huge part of your life for a worthwhile cause to be slapped in the face like that. All new Governors do that same thing wheather they are Democrat or Republican. It is whatever makes them look good. I agree with Beenaway thoughts. if they must cut things, states need to reduce the amount of money given to arts funds,Private Universities and all of the tax breaks they give major corporations, that we all know will eventually shut their doors and move to Mexico anyway. It really depends on who your Gov is in bed with. Our last Governor(D) owned a road construction company. All the monies went to road crews owned by his friends. They state was fixing 1 year old roads here, nothing wrong with them at all. Our current Gov is a Republican, and he is as dumb as a brick. This is the moron whos private plane caused all the commotion at the airport in Washington DC during the elections. They scrambled fighters and evac'd the streets. Did not mean to get carried away, sorry aboput your job man.

Crazy, speaking of India...When I first got this computer,I was having a little trouble and I saw they had a 24 hour "HELP" line. After talking to an Indian for about 10 minutes, I had to tell her, even if it sounded rude,That I could not understand one damn word she was saying. I asked how in the hell can someone get help with out being able to understand broken English?. Her replie was like what you expect from the talking clown at a drive thru.

I am by no means racict, but it would be nice to speak to americans to start with...

Sorry to hear that Bird.

When I left the service and entered the corporate world I found everyone looking over their shoulders. They used several buzzwords, "downsizing", "rightsizing", "competitivesizing", "reengineering", etc. The standard joke was that GTE (now Verizon) stood for Getting Tired of Employees.

It still didn't make it any easier when you were the target...I know.

Luckily, I was able to use my skills in other fields until Fate decided to smile again.

At one point with my prepaid cell phone I had to call 3 people. 1st one sounded rastafarian, the last two were definitely indian, but you could understand them. Better english than a lot of the people around here.

But if you are getting poor service, you need to complain to the companies in writing. Repeatedly.

But to the first post, you can always move down here. I know of a few openings in law enforcement. I have decided for now to stay as a reserve deputy. But there is a tempting offer the next county over, and wilson combat firearms is based there too.

I know it doesn't good, but things have away of working out, hang tuff and good luck.

I've had that problem with Hewlet Packard's help line and AT&T's customer service. I said the same thing to each Indian. "Look, I'm really sorry but I can understand what your saying, so transfer me to a base in the United States." The lady working for HP did transfer me. But they guy at AT&T said he couldn't do it, at least I think that's what he said.

I hate hearing things like this. Especially when it comes from someone that has spent half his life in public service.

Parts houses are good for part time work until you get a decent job again. At least you won't get too bored with it.
