Budget vortec build

I have a nice 68- 350 sbc build able block and a ready made vortec manifold lying around. I took the block to the machinist and after all was said and done I was out of pocket 360 dollars. Clean, inspect, bore, piston wrist pin install, cam bearing install. I'll know more tomorrow how much they will have to be bored. Cyl. Had gnarly rust in one of the bores. Crank was perfect and clearances on the bearings were good. The heads are rebuilt vortec heads from a 2000 truck. I am getting a pretty mild cam with a 550 Holley looking at around 1hp per ci. For right around 1000 bones. I figure 200$ master rebuild with hyper pistons. Around 250 for the heads. 125 for the cam and 50 for nickel and dime. The engine is going into a 75 Scottsdale longbed. Truck has th400 14 bolt rear end 2200 stall b&m converter "not my first choice, but I had it lying around". Already had a master gasket set sitting in the garage. Picked up a lower intake gasket from a 97 gen three vortec motor for 24 dollars. Had a set of head bolts also lying around. I'll keep this post updated as I go along.

Free power?

Please expound, how is careful assy free hp? I know to use hose on the rod studs to keep from scarring the crank. What else is there? I'm using Lucas for assy lube.

Ahhh, no blue printing necessary. I'm balancing the rotating assy. and cutting the rings myself. No need to blueprint. I understand that having correct crank, cam, and lifter alignment can add 15 or more ponies, however my machinist wants another 600 for blue printing of that kind, due to labor time involved. I diss assembled and am doing my own assy. I want to make this as budget as possible. The stock blueprint from gm is more than good enough for 200k or so with some spirited driving in between. I would love to go roller lifter rocker combo and knife edge the crank for some good throttle response with the th400 combo, but it's budget right now for a reason.

How often do you check summits prices? I found it on there. I'll post up the part. No. It doesn't have cam or crank, so to me it's not a true master kit. But moot point.

Part no. SUM-SBCKIT1-000. That is the standard everything kit. I would still need lifters rockers, pushrods, oil shaft, timing kit. What can specs should I go with with the performer intake combo I mentioned to make 350? Don't need a wicked lope.

Does it have to be isky? Don't get me wrong, good people, great work. I am looking at street strip/avenger cam combos, 1 because I need lifters anyway, 2 cheap setups, cheaper than buying individually. Gotta keep it in budget. Looking to stay under 126. Keep it coming.

If you're assembling it yourself, you won't blueprint it as you go, and you will balance it yourself? I think your approach is off base, but it's your "bones". What's your total budget and H.P. goal?
