Buick brake drums on a Chevy?

I'm painting a '57 BelAir for a friend. It has American 5-spokes.

He was asking if the Buick finned aluminum brake drums could be adapted to a '57 Chevy? I told him I'd ask.

Ideas?

Most anything can be accomplished with enough time and money. It would not be a easy conversion IMHO. The Buick finned aluminum drums are 12 inches in diameter. A good bit larger than the 57 Chevrolet drums.

You might be able to make the Buick drums as a cover over the 57 stuff.

40's GM

A friend put 40's olds brakes on his 39 chevy, bigger brakes and it was all a mix and match of GM parts. Mabe you could use buick spindles all the pieces, redrill the bolt pattern ??? Chevy wagon 12 inch rear drum systems are used on Model A fords Years ago I put a 9 inch ford in my willys and used Ford Station wagon front drums and backing plates to the Willys hubs.

They made some finned aluminum Buick front brake drums that came on A body cars. They have a 4.75 bolt pattern. The back aluminum brake drums can be found on a bunch of different GM cars from the late 70 to early 80s. I don't know what it would take to use A body brakes on a 57 Chevy. Vintage Americans will fit the A body brake drums without any problems.
