stroker

buicks of this era are easy to change axl seals. no snap rings in diff to remove -reason for absence of cover. as someone mentioned remove 4 short bolts behind axl flange and slide axl out. pry out old seal with top jaw of pair channel-lock pliars - permatex outside of new seal -drive in square with a piece of hardwood block. be careful when you slide in axl not to drag too heavy on seal lip. last bearing i bought for one of these was expensive and you have to figure a way to get retainer ring off and back on. oroginally they split ring and put on new one -probably no luck scoreing one of these today. i think if bearing is ok i would leave it alone as these were very large and durable unlike cheeper autos that ran rollers on axl. if bearing gets noisey some day you dont have to worry about scorring axl, change it then
