Building chassis from scatch

I'm building a chassis to fit a holden 253 small block and 9" diff and was looking at using 75 by 50 box for main section but not sure on what wall thickness will work. Any help would be great.

You mention a Holden and then 75 x 50 box section so I'm assuming you're in Australia ?? Depending on the horse power which may not be too much I think a 3/16 wall would be more that adequate with the properly placed cross members.

3mm (0.1182") would be very close to 11 gauge (0.1196"). Although I never measured the thickness of an early Ford frame rail, it is said that Henry used 11 gauge for his production rails. 0.118" is also the N.H.R.A. minimum thickness for mild steel rollbars and rollcages.

75 x 50 x 3 should work, or if you need a little extra beef, 100 x 50 x 3.
