building a gas air compressor

I have a 4hp briggs & stratton on a air tank that runs, has a kick down on it but there was no compressor. I've put a good compressor on it, & now I'm curious on how to plumb it correctly so it operates in the right manor. If anybody has the know how or a schematic that shows how to do, I would greatly appriciate it. Gw

First we need to now what kind of pump you are talking about, a two stage will plumb in a lot differently than a single stage. For a gas compressor a properly set up two stage pump is a lot better in about every way than a single stage, it will be far more efficient and easier to plumb properly.

I appreciate the idea of trying to build your own compressor. Compressed air is extremely dangerous if it is not contained properly. There is a lot more to it than you may think.
