I have been looking for a good while tonight trying to find wiring harness connectors for a friend of mine thats bringing a 68 Dodge Sweptline pickup back to life. After looking at the truck today I thought finding a new bulkhead connector would be relatively easy since it looked somewhat like a generic trailer harness. I would now be un-surprised to learn that the connector was no longer available after searching google for about 2 and a half hours. I was surprised that I was unable to find any sort of generic plug that would allow me to build a new engine harness. Where should I look? I know someone has to sell generic wire harness building materials. I don't want to go the route of purchasing a painless or ron francis kit. What I need is pretty simple. Does anyone know of a source that sells multicolored wire similar to the type used in a factory wiring harness?
Most of the wiring harness manufactures sell bulk wire. Or you could try McMaster Carr. I personally would not even consider a Ron Francis harness, too proprietary.
After doing a little research it seems that the best wire to use is crosslink txl, sxl, or gxl. Does anyone know the differences between the three and which is the best to use under the hood and which is best to use inside the car? What gauge do the companies like Painless and Ron Francis use for the normal connections. I was planning on using either 16 or 14, is this too small?
Ok, I've resolved myself to buying a generic firewall bulkhead. But I can't find one anywhere. I checked the site suggested and I think they have everything except what I'm looking for.
