Bull Crap!!
i caught fast and the furious on tv today, and heard them say they ran 9 second quarter miles, now i almost pissed my pants in laughter, istn't that just perfection a nice looking street car that does a nine second quarter mile, i have an 85 s10 with a 368 and i ran a 13.30 and its not really stock at all, this winter im locking the rear end and putting Z06 wheels and tires for the traction i'll be looking for and and new cam and new heads pretty much a complete rebuild, I look to get into the low to mid 12 second range, i just thought you guys would get a kick out of what they say they ran in that movie, ik its old but its just sooo stupid to say that after everything ive been through with my build and knowing what ive learned, what do you guys think?

No doubt, I love it when a ricer runs really quick and then gets embarrassed cuz he spent 35,000 to do a 12 second 1/4 mile and us V8 guys spend like 5000-8000 for our entire drive train and run the same thing

If you have the DVD and go into the special features they have the cars with their ACTUAL horsepower and what they run. Its funny to see how much they hype these cars for the movie.

That movie gave me a good laugh also when he says "11:1 compression, turbo charged, NOS" try running that, and lets see how high we can blow the head off of it. Funny how they say "nawssssss"
Ricer engines rev, they don`t make much of what American V8`s are known to make, Torque. I`ll take low end torque any day of the week over revving one to hell. Saddest part of all is, how many ricer kids believed all that BS. Last edited by DoubleVision; 10-03-2005 at 07:24 AM. |

in all fairness to the ricer crowd, I've seen one hell of a lot of power out of chrysler 2.5's that were thrown together using 90% junkyard parts. I'm talking like 500 hp with the only aftermarket thing being a fuel system and a cam.

my oldest son 23yrs old is a jet mechanic in the air force (just came home from england, he has 1.5yrs left in FL. ) and he believes this fast & furious BS 100% in fact he wanted a new (04 on the show room floor) neon SRT10 (it's turbo charged) but could not swing the down payment, and ended up with a 05 neon auto 4 banger, by the time he got home it had 300miles on it, he had already rapped it to 5000RPM + several Xs
i told him he did not buy a sports car or a performance car but a economy car ! he was on ebay looking for a srt10 turbo motor with a 5 speed. says hes going to swap it over . i told him if he was dead set on it, buy a wrecked neon and a srt motor. he thinks the US is stupid for running Big V8s when other country's have been running imports with 4 & 6s with better Fuel MPGs and getting more performance, he thinks theres 9 & 10 sec imports on the street everwhere. i just gave up and said ok.his 13yr old brother (my youngest son) even tried to tell him........... A clear case of Hollywood making a movie without ever consulting someone who knows about the subject matter.
It's kind of funny..... when Hollywood makes a war movie they always have some retired general as a technical adviser to help keep things somewhat believable. In this case their technical adviser must have been Mickey Mouse.

It is very possible to get a economy car into the 10's for under 10 grand. mind you that's a stripped economy car... Yea, you can also buy a 80's camaro and do the same for under 10 grand if you know what you're doing, but you won't be geting 20+ MPG. I personally love the rumble of my '72 cutlass, however I also love the way my Poncho 151 spins in my truck. You don't always need 8 cylinders. Look at the Buick crowd....

Movie Magic ...
I wonder how many buying decisions have been influenced by: Trans Ams -- "Smokey & the Bandit" 74 Torinos -- "Starter & Clutch" (as we used to call them) 68 Chargers -- "Dukes of Hazzard" Macon County Line (70 LTD w/ 429?) White Line Fever Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry (or was it vice-versa?) (Challenger? or Cuda?) Anyway... I'm sure that many people were influenced, and it was always fun leaving the drive-in after one of those movies had played.
