Bullheimer luck...(Sorry it's long)

I've had a lousy week, and it's just beginning.

I got an 1 1/2" staple into my hand at work yesterday. Last night I was on the way to AutoZone to fix a wiper motor core return problem when my truck decided to blow up. I'm, not sure yet what blew. I was heading down the Interstate when I thought I saw something like a snow flurry swirl behind me. I was still looking out the back when I sailed right past the next offramp. About 50 feet past, my temp gauge started climbing from 180 to 240+. Oh crap, a rearview mirror full of 3 lane fog. I pulled it over coasting to a stop after hitting neutral and killing it off. It puked all the antifreeze out, so there I sat. With a cold I've been fighting for over a week. And, no cellphone, either.

35 minutes later, I got a visit from the DOT Safety Patrol rollback. He moved the whole mess to the DMV free of charge. The next rollback set me back $52 for home delivery. He was almost an hour to pick me up. The truck started right up to move the last few feet uphill into my driveway. Ran fine, but it will just drain the antifreeze out almost as fast as you pour it in. I'm waiting now for the Mrs. (she's working now) to help pour water in to find the leak. But now, for the first time since I met her, I don't really want to see her come home. For fear of what we'll find, not beacause of marital issues. She worries about vehicle issues the same way I do.

At work, all I could figure out is it's a water pump to block gasket (I just put a new pump in almost a month ago, so now I'm second guessing my work. ), a bad rear pump cover gasket, a freeze plug, or a blown head gasket.

I've almost had it with this truck now. Since we bought it, I've put in a new battery, alternator, wiper motor, water pump twice (the first replacement leaked before I got it all set together), all the belt and hoses, and new front brakes. All I need to do now is add a transmission and a couple of u-joints and I'll have everything I replaced in 8 years in my old truck in a matter of 8 months.

Thanks for reading...I had to vent.

In a while, Chet.

I had a blow out on the Interstate the other day. Spent three days camping, with 5 kids, and no TV.The other day after a long night at work,I caught a damn curb and blew another NEW tire.Waited three hours for help to show up,with a tire and wheel. So now I have a dummy on the r/t rear, and a maypop from my 91 SHO on the front of the 93.Granted it is small fries compared to what you have gone through, and I hope it is a quick easy fix, like a front freeze plug. We all have Bull weeks don't we??

Hey chet-

Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago. It was a side freezeplug on my old dodge. These things happen, costs about a buck at the auto store and takes about 2 seconds to install. Get a long extention and put a socket on the end of it, then put the freeze plug on the end. Get it squared up in the hole and pound the dogsht out of the the other end with a hammer. Add coolant. Drive to CVS to get some neosporin for your hand.

Cost of antifreeze, neosporin and freezeplug: under 20 dollars on debit mastercard.

Seeing a big smile on chet's face? Priceless.

Thanks guys. The hand only hurts a little, no where near what it did right after I did it.

The truck, well I'm still not sure where the leak is. So far, killer, the total is just over $26 and counting... I need more beer, so I know that will go up. To get to the freeze plugs, I need to pull all the alt. bracket stuff off. Not quite a 20 minute fix. Oh well. Time for another cold one....

Well Chet, we all seem to get bullheimer luck sometime or another. I don't know if you remember a couple months ago about the engine in my truck going south, but it happened because of overheating to. When it broke down on the side of the road, believe me I was pissed! I got out and kicked the truck then threw my keys into the pasture I was parked by. Then had to go find my keys that somehow ended up in a bunch of cacti. Then found out a couple days later I was suspended from school because of bad grades.

We've all been there bro, just keep on truckin'.......figuratively speaking that is

Want to buy a f150 cheap. Its been sitting for two years because it was nothing but bad luck and got tired of dealing with it. Twice something else went wrong somehow while it was just sitting while fixing something else. Everyone has bad days now in then, I've had a rough last couple years myself with things in my life, just starting to turn around now.

Good news, it was just a bad gasket between the block and pump. I'll be setting it back together tomorrow after work.

Hey Beenaway, sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my first boss to cancer way back in 1995. It started in his tailbone, and just spread from there. In a matter of 8 months, he was dead. I watched him die a death I wouldn't wish off on my worst enemy. Enjoy the time you have left together. That kinda puts a leaky gasket out of the what really matters bucket, doesn't it?

In a while, Chet.

He got some great news yesterday.
His isn't REALLY a cancer, but its very similar. Chemo doesn't work, but some sort of shot does. He seems to think he has it beat , for now... Lets hope so!

i'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

yeah, my luck hasn't been so bad lately. glad you caught a break!!! i have three dead cars in my yard right now, but only one is mine. youngest step daught has a blown up honda in the front street and a 90 imperial with a blown transmission. that got pushed over to her boy friends two days ago. the oldest daught has a 95 lumina with a snapped timing belt in my driveway i'm not fixing. we got a friend to buy it for $200. we just last week put a new fuel pump in it. and my youngest's boyfriend put two extra quarts of oil in my reliant wagon a month ago. it still runs but blows bubbles out the radiator cap.. i tried to start it yesterday and it was locked up. so i loosened the plug so it would blow out the water and not make noise so it runs like a mile before it gets hot. i plan on driving it to the junkyard pretty soon, but it's still licensed and i only live a half mile from town so it will make a quick round trip. my grand am, after my youngest boyfriend brain trust drove it once, now either has a flat spot on the flywheel or needs the starter shimmed. so they can't borrow it anymore. i have changed the alt. belt three times in the last month. got a car that came with 4 different alts and the one the wrecker gave me wasn't the right one but i finally got the pulley shimmed right today. yea!
my main sob story is my wife is still in total agony from her neck. she just told me the physical therapy she's been doing for the last month that i thought was helping her hasn't helped reduce the pain she's feeling at all. she is half whacked from the pills she needs plus a six pack of beer. i really hope she gets better soon. but none of the docs seem to be able to do squat for her except to say to keep waiting, maybe up to two years...

i'm on top of the books at the ibew hall and i should get a call out to the new hospital they started either next week or this week. hope to be back out to work, even if it's all outside and it rains every stinking day here now. should dry out about april. almost got my master bedroom redone and ready to move into. about a week away. and my mom, god. she's been telling me for a month someone stole the back half off her cadillac and put a longer one on it cause it was never that long before. now she is telling me her dresser is moving across the floor by itself (on the carpet yet) and will be blocking her new door i just put on. i haven't been online in a week or on here in about two. i got too much stuff going on. i used to log on at my work but i got fired from that as you may recall for flipping off this dumb-a#@ kid. no regrets yet! got my 401K money, havent worked in a month, and sold my Scout for $3000 the week i got fired, and i'm gonna get unemployment till the union puts me back to work. things could be worse but they could be alot better too. i see my "luck" is still got my name attached to it. well i guess we all gotta be famous for something

My last acquisition...

Late last winter I bought a 91 Ford Explorer 4X4 as is. Paid $2500 for it with 35k on the odometer. Drove it one week and the damn thing blew up, spun a cam brng and wasted the block. Cost me another $2500 to get the engine rebuilt and a new clutch put in.

I finally got over the worst of my cold (3 weeks of being stuffed up and achy) and now my '97 is up and running. No leaks, drips, or strange puddles. Heck, I even hosed all the antifreeze that didn't hit the drainpan down my driveway... J/K! I buy oil dry in bulk. Just like WD40. Anyways, I figured I'd let ya'll know I'm ready to light 'em up.

why bother starting a new thread for THIS?

sunday i'm trying to sleep in. i'm having a happy dream when there is a knock on the bedroom door. step-dot is "i over slept! i was spozed to be at work already! I'll go start the car." sound of car cranking. sound of car cranking, this is the grand am from hell she's trying to start, btw....
sound of car cranking. sound of car cranking. she just drove it last night. the last time she drove it, the next day (couple days ago) the starter grinded. i'm sure she tried to start it while it was running so now there is a flat spot somewhere. anyway, to make a long story even longer, i have to get my arse up and go fix the car. tried jumping around the little red wire that was open that was the cause of my woes earlier and it didn't work. no gas getting squirted down the throttle body. lucky BULLHEIMER i still have the junk yard throttle body laying around, so after i put it on the car runs great! yea! crappy beginning of a day HAS to have a crappy ending.. read on for just how crappy it gets.

drag the dog around all day in the car. go out to eat. drive out to the refineries. let the dog out. wife takes off with the dog running. sam (me) takes off with the dog running. dog doesnt seem to make any indication of having to go poop. come home. wife doesnt send dog into back yard, takes dog into house. dog doesnt seem to want to go out. step-dot wants some booze. sends us to the store. wife for some reason wants to take dog on 5 minute car adventure. dog (i hear later) tries to bust a move to back yard, wife corrals and sticks dog in car. sam and lisa go into store for five, count'em FIVE minutes. go back to car. open door. most HELLACIOUS stench imaginable hits sam in face. sam says to lisa Oh my God! don't go in there! it smells like $heet! wife opens window and sits down in passenger seat. AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'M SITTING IN SHEET! I HAVE PEE ALL OVER ME AND sHHET UP MY *****!!!! that fking dog pee'd in the chair! i say "and Sheet too, all over your butt". YYAAAAAA!
just then, i catch a glimpse of something else out of the corner of my eye. i look towards the drivers side of the car. i can't believe what i am looking at. i have to wipe my eyes and look again. a sight more HENIOUS than the head of Medusa!!! THE BIGGEST MOUNTAIN OF DOG CRAP EVER SHAT BY MAN NOR BEAST is sitting in my driver's seat!!!
i'll leave the rest of the evening to your imaginations....
