bumpsteer / suspension design question

assuming a typical mcpherson strut front suspension on a unibody car:

say you have a front suspension thats designed so that the tie rod is @ the same level, length and angle as the lower control arm

is this better or worse for eliminating bumpsteer ? or would it have no effect ?

Bumpsteer is caused by a mis-match of the "inner" tierod point to the theoretical centerline struck through the upper and lower a-arm pivots. Even though a strut suspension doesn't have an upper arm the relationships are still the same. The inner pivot has more bearing on bumpsteer then the outer but everything is relative and, if the suspension is designed correctly, the "angle" of the outer tierod is not a good indicator of bumpsteer.
Read this article from Longacre:

The diagram at the end gives you a good idea of what relationships will work. The tierod angle can be just about anything that satisfies the requirements.

very nice link, thank you. theres alot of good info there that i was having trouble finding

im already firmiliar w/ what this image shows

http://www.longacreracing.com/articl.../bsdrawing.jpg

and i know that on a strut vehical, the "upper control arm" is (if i remember correctly) an imaginary line drawn 90* to the strut from the upper strut mount and continueing on to infinity (or till it meets the same line from the LCA)

my concern here is that i might be converting my strut front suspension to SLA (dual a arm) reusing most of my suspension components

i beleive i have the room to do it, and im pretty sure that since my LCA and tie rod are equal length and equal height, ill have "minimal" problem with bump steer, due to the fact that they basicly "share" the same imaginary line

more later ... giotta run ....
