You know I just finished working in a high production welding shop. You welded all day(night in my case). I don't mean a few inches now and them. Often I went thru a full spool of .045 wire plus some or 15 pounds of TIG rod. You welded non stop as fast as possible with 200-300 amps. Sometimes even more. I did this day in and day out for weeks on end. Not once did I ever get weld burn in the eyes. I use an auto dark and often changed cover lens a couple times a night.
If you are getting your eyes burned because you are not correctly using a helmut you need a big kick in the rear end from your boss, a word lashing from your GF or DW, and chomp on the leg by your dog.
The same goes for not using saftey glasses and face shields. Just because they look gay doesn't mean you should risk eye damage by not using them. You would trade $10 for saftey glasses and $15 for a face shield for and eye or both eyes??? Come in my area with out them and you will be skidding out the door on your rear end.
There is absolutely no excuse for disregarding this saftey.
