I don't wear contacts as there is too much dust and smoke around. I much prefer several set of prescription safety glass magnifiers. It's easier to simply change glasses than helmet magnifiers. I have 3 magnifications handy. Really need the high power ones to see very small welds as the light is very minimal from the arc.
I saw a neat idea a week or so ago. A guy clamped a small LED light to his torch to light the way as he welded. I tried a small flashlight on my TIG and it works but it needs to be really small. It works perfectly on MIG.
