The cheap 305 engine I bought with my truck is burning oil. At first I changed the intake manifold gaskets because it was squirting oil out of the back gasket and getting on the exhaust. That fixed the problem until I switched over to an edlebrock high rise intake. The only visible leaks are from those cheap chrome PVC and Blowbys you buy to dress up your engine. I switched back to a std. PVC valve and I can still see oil leaking out of the blowby. Do you think that is the only problem? My plugs were foulded out, but I suspected a weak fuel pump flooding out the cylinders at start up in the mornings.
I was afraid of that. I tried to get my neighbor to hold the manifold off of the gaskets while I started threading a screw in front and back so it would align when I seated it. But leave it up to free help from the neighbor, he just set the manifold straight down like I asked him not to and said "It'll be alright". I did notice oil leaking from the screw seats, so I put washers under them and it stopped it from leaking externally, but I'm sure it is leaking internally.
Use a little Sealant around the water ports/passages on the Heads & Intake, this will hold the Gaskets in place. Lay a thick 1/4" or so bead of Sealant across the front & rear up to the Side gaskets, do not use the crappy rubber F&R seals. Make sure all surfaces are clean, grease free before applying the Sealant. Let the Sealant cure for 20min. before dropping the Intake on.

What gaskets did you use? One way to sometimes tell if the intake gaskets are leaking is pull the carb, if there`s oil everywhere in the plenum there`s a leak. Next going by the sound of what`s coming out of the valve covers blow by wise, I think it might be a good idea to do a compression check on every cylinder.

I've been planning on compression testing the engine, but I've been too lazy to do it and it didn't smoke or have any problems until I changed the intake manifold. I will check it before I swap motors so I can honestly sell or trade it off afterwords.
I asked about the gaskets as many use fel pro`s as they are known to be the best. But what you don`t know can hurt you. In some cases fel pro`s are not for use with aluminum intakes. That`s why I always use the ultra cheapy mr. gasket sbc gaskets hanging off the shelf, there made out of paper and seal up nicely.
