Which Butyl tape to use for 67 Impala windshield

Purchased new 67 Impala windshield.($117.00 and new!!)

I have sanded and will be using POR 15 on pinch weld. I am about to install windshield but I am confused on which size Butyl tape to use.

Should I purchase the 1/4, 5/16,or the 3/8?

Should the windshield, after installation , be flush with the roof top or sit just below it?

Where should the windshield sit in relation to studs that hold the clips in place. Should it be at same height ,above or below the studs? Does it make a difference?

I want to be sure that moldings will fit just right after windshield is installed.
The new windshield is 3/16" thick.

Have read the articles posted here and it gave me some fantastic advice but I didnt see this question answered.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanx
ImpalaAlex

The following thread should answer all your questions. Basically, the glass will be down from the edge and you REALLY need to install the clips and trial fit a piece of moulding.

I think you will need the 3/8" butyl tape.

Thank You Brian,

I will be trying out the 3/8" this weekend.

I think I will cut a small piece of the butyl tape (1/2" wide) and dry fit everything to make sure I get a good fit before installing the entire roll of tape.

Fantastic thread!! Masking tape tip will be super helpful on installation of window. Thanx for the shared knowledge.

Now you're thinking! The only reason why I said that is because of the aftermarket thinner glass. On the original there is NO WAY you could get the thing in with a 3/8", you would need the 5/16". Trial fitting is NEVER a waste of time. You should think about having it urethane set by a good glass man as well. The problem is, very few know these old cars anymore. A young guy who has only been setting late model cars could make a mess of your old Chevy real quick.
