Alright I know I have too many projects already but the 1969 Nova is moving right along and this is a hard decision. For sale in the booming metropolis of Woodbine is a 1974 Monte Carlo a friend of mine restored 16 years ago. Caution Sad, Sad story ahead! He bought the car, overhauled, painted the engine, put new interior, new white landau top, painted the body nearly a candy apple red color and put Keystone Crager style wheels on it. He sold the car to a guy in town that said how much he loved the car and he drove it for a year then parked it out back on blocks... For 13 Years!!! Weeds grew around it, he took off the air cleaner and cut the plug wires for the majority of this time. Now the trunk is so bad if you laid a brick in it it would fall through. The floor is almost as bad in some areas, the top is ripped everywhere. But other than the dash, which is cracked in two spots, the interior is pristine! The body, other than the floor, just needs a good scrub and polish. The rims are the same. The engine is complete but the little 2bbl has been uncovered for at least 10 years, and has not run in this time. He wants $500, I offered him two, and this car is sooo bad underneath It's not worth much more. But there is something about this car that makes me want it. What do you think?
Pictures would help... A lot. I like Montes, addicted to them actually. But if it's as bad as you're making it sound (granted, this is sight-unseen), I would say that $250 would be about tops for it. It's really difficult, though, to give a decent price estimate without pictures.
I sold my '76 T-Top because MC specific parts were too hard to find. I bought a '55 Studebaker to replace it and finding parts hasn't been an issue yet. Affording some of them yes, but they're available. If you decide to go for it I still have some goodies left.

I must be computer-retarded because I still can't even figure out how to upload pics from my digital camera, no scanner either, dial up, and I can't text pic's from my phone to my computer because... no texting! :smash:
I know I should, but if I could get it for $200 I could get a running 350 around here for that $300 or put that much into the 350 in it.
Dam its like I'm a junkie when it comes to cars, it wasn't last week that I told myself I have a Nova and my Lincoln, I'm good for a good long while, cold turkey, there was nothing even on the radar, then Boom! Hey look a Monte Carlo! :drunk:

Your young and enthusiastic, but really think about the three W's, What you will do with it, When you will do it, Where you will store it. At 19 I moved around quite a bit and had to get rid of more projects than you can shake a stick at. If it can't move under it's own power it will be more burden than blessing. A deal is only a deal if you have a fairly immediate use for it. Trust me, there will be others.
Space isn't a problem, we have a lot of garage space because this used to be a hog farm before we tore the crap out and turned them into garages, one turned out better than our big shop that was meant to be a shop. But yeah, if the guy will take 200 I'll buy it. If he wont budge I'll say see ya later and good luck. No skin off my back. It'll sit there for another dozen or so years before the thing gets turned into a Kenmore. :mwink:
The frind of mine whose lawn the guy parked it on bought it for $150 got it running great and cut a trunk out of a junk yard found 75 Malibu ******* Convertable :mwink: , same dimensions, and is putting it in now.
I vote pass also. With the damage done your talking lots and lots of work and lots of time plus money. Ask yourself is it worth it? will it be worth it in the end? I`ve seen many find a beater in the same condition that have high ambition on getting it back in shape and on the road, in a short time they become discouraged and wonder why they bought it.
Not saying you`ll become like this, but I am also saying if you looked around you could likely find a far better monte core in better condition for not much more coin.
I have 2 of these Montes. They are hard to find parts for and they arent that cheap when they are nice either. If you decide to do it your main concern should be the trim (moldings emblems and so on) its the most expensive part.
if the interior is as nice as you say thats a big help.Floor and trunk pans are available through many sheet metal dealers.I think OPGI has them. Check around the vinyl top for rot its a common place for it to go as well as the usuall spots. Check out site for more info there is alot of us G3 owners there http://g3gm.goodforum.net/forum.htm
Like I said, a friend of mine bought it, the same friend of mine who actually restored this same car once already 20 years ago, his headache (again) but atleast he's doing something with it. (Again.)
Me too man. It's a really neat car, or was, Candy apple red with a white
landau top and black interior, it was neat.
