buying 350?

I have a chance to buy a 1975 350 that may have been rebuilt. No knowledge of miles on it. supposedly ran good when pulled supposedly a year ago. Was not fogged , was wrapped tight and has not been turned.
#'s indicate a 75 -350 -165 HP -out of a C20 to 3500.

I want to use it in my 31 chev without doing much to it.
My ? is if it turns should I go ahead and buy it?
Supposedly had a tunnel ram and 2/4'S
Really ,there is no way of knowing what the idle would be.But the rumor that 2/4's seems like maybe not for the street.
I have seen pix of the moter and it was sealed well and wrapped well and is sitting on a stand.
What are your thoughts on this?

Hi c.c. Bob,
If it had a tunnel ram & 2-4s I would think
it would have a cam to match, so I would open
it up, In fact, I wouldn't buy an engine without
opening it up.
Take care,
rich

Me thinks you're answering your own questions...."may have been rebuilt", "supposedly ran good when pulled supposedly a year ago", "supposedly had a tunnel ram and 2/4's".
Now my thoughts are you either have to verify these claims as to its running condition by at least pulling the heads or just consider it still a 165 hp truck engine. Knew a guy that bought a "supposed" Joe Mondello 355" sbc only to find out later that it was nothing more than a totally stock Targetmaster with some bling fastened to it. At least try to get a compression check on it, how much is the asking price?

if it turns I would buy it, try to get it down to 3 or 400 but the parts would be worth that if it is a 350......MAKE SURE!!!!!

want to buy 75' 350

The "may have" is a real concern. The 2x4"s to me, means it was'nt "fogged" but probably flogged. With out a list of internals i would not buy it ,and want to see pics of mains and bore,w/bore dial gauge pics.My last purchase was a 20kmi. dead old lady's 4dr.71' nova enginew/all maintenance records.real cheap an i got what i was paying for.Iwould lean towards the unmolested SBC before buying a "may have, supposedly engine".
