Buying 700R4 on EBAY?

OK here goes, I am ready to get hacked apart for even wanting to ask this question..... but here goes...

I recently bought a 67 c10 with a t400 tranny that now has about 600 miles on it. There is nothing wrong with the tranny, but I really want a 4 speed. (700R4) I have been looking on several sites and while looking for parts for the inside of my truck on ebay I got a wild hair and decided to look up transmissions.

I noticed that some of the same tranny sites I was going to in the first place were also selling on EBAY just for alot cheaper. ie "monster transmissions" ect..

Is it crazy to even concider buying a tranny of of EBAY??

700r4

I did a LOT of research on the internet...looked at bowtie overdrives and the other big one that had a huge amount of info.
I found mine on craigs list. It was only 80 miles away, and I know where the guys house and shop are in the case it was a bad deal.
I'm not sure I would be comfortable with a long didstance buy on ANY auto trans.
I have no good reason to back that up except just not being comfortable.

Hmmmmmm

I just looked and saw you are in Dallas.
In my opinion there is NO reason for you to have to go outside the DFW area to find what you are looking for unless you are going to get something new from one of the specialty shops.

I'd check with Jakeshoe, he's a member here & close to Dallas, has a couple of trans tech writeups at the top of the Trans/Rearend section. Also a TH2004R trans would be an easier swap since you have a TH400 now. Same crossmember can be used in same location, driveshaft yoke is different 400 has 30 spline, 2004R is 27 spline.
This is his site, hope this isn't against rules to post someone else's site.>>>

My thoughts exactly, one of the best transmission shops around is located in Weatherford, Texas..Phoenix Transmission.

700R4 trans on E-Bay

IF this is the same Trans shop you've been to, and is also selling on E-Bay, ONLY CHEAPER, buy it off E-Bay, and PICK IT UP IN PERSON. You were going to install it yourself anyway, right? And, since it's local to you, there should be no problems if it needs warrantee work.

Those are pretty stiff words!! Exactly what first hand experiences have you had that lead you to that statement?

Mad Dog

pd 1000$ for a 700r4 when it arrived here in So Cal the only thing new in the trans was the filter. Also at a car show met another man who got trans and only ran once around the block.
