Post Buying used pistons a good idea? also buying a used cam?

is it a good idea to buy them, if they are in good shape or it looks like they do

also a used camshaft is that good?

im doing a compleate engine rebuild on a .30 over 350

unless you have many years of experience with engines and their components leave buying used pistons alone, most of the press pin cast pistons are damaged when removed from the rod, they crack up in the strut area and you can't see it. Certain forged pistons have skirt disorders or micro cracking, skirts can be collapsed or spread. Buying used cams is not for the wise, especially if the lifters are not with it or are not numbered to the lobe it came from, you can't visually measure for wear, if it looks worn it is wiped out!

If your doing a complete rebuild buy new pistons and a camshaft for sure unless you have the same lifters on the same lobes of the cam dont even mess with a used cam. You will be much happier with new parts trust me.

don't waste your time!!!!! new pistons $300 new cam with lifters $150 total $450. time not spending pulling old parts = Priceless
This is not a master card commercial this is true life!!!!! Ha Ha :p

okay thanks guys, i just saw good deals on ebay for used **** and im on budget right now, okay guys thanks alot ill buy new stuff

now is the crane cam with 272/272 454/454 lift good for my engine, do i need a new stall with that? i have a shift kit
