There's actually 3 patterns, small block, 385 series, and FEs... None of which interchange. Since the C6's bellhousing and case are a single cast unit, they can not be swapped between different engine families like a C4 or FMX can, you just have to have the right one for your motor sorry to say. The small block pattern is easy to tell, it's small... The 385 series is sorta tall and egg shaped, I'd say upwards of 30 inches, where the FE pattern is almost a circle.

As stated in previous post, you can't switch bells.

The 460 takes a high top bell about 7" between top bolts. The small block is 5-1/8" between top bolts. The FE bell is almost perfectly round.

And there are 3 more bell types for C6s. Diesel (same as 460 but with cutout on bottom of bell), Lincoln 460 (Pointed top), and Lincoln 462 (Pointed top).
