A/C shuts causes engine to stall

I have a 69 caprice with a 350 4bbl and a/c. Ac blows good but when I'm driving and come to a light it starts to stall and gen lights pops on so I shut the ac off and everything goes back to normal. I have a edelbrock 1406, and noticed that edelbrock sells an idle compensator solenoid that maintains a certain idle when the ac is switched on, this little thingy is close to 100 bucks. Can I just bump up the idle on the carb a few hundrend rpms and this will do the trick, and if I do this will I have to make any other adjustments such as fuel mixture or fuel regulator adjustments. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you're suggesting is a band-aid approach.......but if you don't want to spend the extra money then yes you can dial up the idle. I would only turn it up just enough to keep the engine from stalling because when the ac is off the engine will basically free wheel. I know this is not the most "technical" way of solving the problem but it will help until you can afford the correct solution.
