C4 trans ident?
I was given a C4 trans a while ago that I plan on using for a Pinto/351W swap. The bellhousing fits the block no problem.
I am missing the flexplate, though I do have the trans and torque converter.
Here's my question...how can I *positively* identify what I have for a C4? Apparently there were several, and I need to figure out what I need for a flexplate in terms of how many teeth. It *may* even be out fo a Mustang II, which would be great for my application. There are numbers all over the trans, but I don't know which ones identify what the trans actually IS.
The shaft has 26 splines, and there are 7 bolts holding the bell onto the trans. The filler is on the bottom, where the pan bolts on.
Any idea how I can definitively tell what I've got here?
Check out sites like Art Carr and TCI - they've got lots of info posted.
use gooogle: type in quotes : "Ford C-4" transmission.
It will take you to a number of good C-4 bulletin boards and lots of good info.
"At Ford the line never stops, use whatever is there" drives you nuts!
A guy just posted, 67' 6cylinder stang with 5 bolt wheels??
ha! don't just type in "C-4", you are being watched......
Try www.baumannengineering.com also.
You will be able to use what you have but you may need to adapt a little along the way.
c4s used with 351 clevlands had dipstick going into the oilpan pickups and vans also used these trans they had extra plates
