Question c4 transmission help

I just "aquired" an 85 5.0 Mustang from my son and am having some trouble w/ this tranny!! It has all new parts on the inside (have checked the inside cause was told that it was all new which it is) and goes into reverse great, just won't move forward at all. Doesn't even jump as trying to engage. Will snap your head back in reverse but can't get to engage at all in drive. HELP. As you can see, I'm a chevyman and not much on Ford workings...Anybody got any suggestions?

Didn't they use an AOD in '85?

Interesting angle of attack. The engine type wasn't stated. The 2.3L uses a C3. The 3.8L uses a C5 or AOD. The 5.0L uses a AOD.

Maybe the C4 was put in for performance reasons?
